Arianna had her visit with the Cardiologist where they performed an Electrocardiogram (ECG), an Echocardiogram, tested her blood pressure, and did more blood tests. The extensive exam revealed that Arianna has degenerative mitral valve disease which has resulted in mitral regurgitation. However, at this point there is no secondary changes to her heart and no medication is required which is good news. Her blood pressure was also slightly elevated. Surprisingly, there were no heartworms that were visualized in the pulmonary artery. The doctor said her heartworm disease was minimal and suggested that we take a conservative approach to her treatment which entails continuing monthly heartworm preventative medication along with doxycycline. Barring any complications the Cardiologist and Oncologist want to see Arianna for a follow-up exam in 6 months. We are hoping her health remains stable but it would help to keep her in your thought and prayers. In the meantime, Arianna has been relishing her new happy life. She has become comfortable being spoiled and has found her ?voice?. She has started to bark at things appropriately like a normal dog which is nice to see. She also has become a big ?licker??.giving everyone frequent kisses. There is no shortage of appreciation from Arianna. She loves everyone and is loved by everyone in return. Arianna is being fostered in the same loving foster home as little Pinky who is also thriving. They have become close friends and seem to be helping each other heal?. physically and mentally. All of us at NBR can think of no better gift than to see the transformation in both of these sweet girls. They are finally getting the care, love, attention, and respect that they were once sadly severely lacking. To quote Arianna and Pinky?s foster dad??The best gift for a boxer is another boxer. The girls like to cuddle.?The new photos and videos speak volumes. Below is the latest foster report: ?Watching Arianna grow and develop a personality has been amazing. She now weighs in at 62 pounds, 20 pounds more than when she was first rescued. She is very loving and thrives on attention. I do not understand how anyone could be mean or neglectful to this angel face. She is beginning to feel at home and believes everything belongs to her, but does not mind sharing. She has learned to play with a ball and a frisbee and has trained each of us to fetch and throw. She, however, has learned to retrieve Ed's slippers (from the shoe rack inside the bedroom closet) and all stuffed animals. Our goal is to love, spoil and make her happy. You will be happy to know she is well on her way to being the princess she deserves to be.? 11/4/12: Arianna Is Happy And Feeling Good For Now Arianna was seen by an Oncology Specialist and the news we received continues to give us hope that she will have many good years ahead of her. The type of rare cancer found in Arianna?s kidney has a strong probability to spread to other organs if it is not encapsulated, but thankfully her tumor WAS encapsulated. 20 to 25% of dogs can be ?cured? by surgery alone and we are praying that Arianna will fall into that category. Chemotherapy or radiation has proven not to be affective for Renal Tubular Adenocarcinoma but there are some drugs that are being used experimentally. The doctor felt that the best approach at this time is to monitor Arianna closely and have her examined every two or three months (blood work, ultrasound etc). Arianna?s cancer diagnosis is complicated by the fact that she is heartworm positive. The Oncologist felt that the next course of action is to return to the hospital in two weeks to see him and a Cardiology Specialist. They will perform more tests to determine how Arianna?s remaining kidney is functioning and whether there is any
