04/07/13: Thank God The Pups Are OK We sighed a collective sigh of relief as the puppies started to respond to the medical treatment prescribed by the ER doctor. They healed quickly and are all back to their normal happy playful selves. We brought them back to the vet for a checkup and the doctor said they have fully recovered. We still aren't sure what made them sick but we are certainly happy that they are all better. The doctor gave the OK to go forward with their spay/neuter surgeries which is scheduled for Tuesday. Can you believe we're 8 weeks old already!!!! This is going to be a busy week for "The Mia Bunch". Mia and all of her puppies are getting spayed/neutered. After a couple days of rest they will be transported by a handful of selfless volunteers from Georgia to New York. We will be working with the homes that have been fully approved to adopt their new family members on the 13th or 14th (we are still finalizing transport dates/times). Please consider helping one of these darlings. There are still many of them left waiting to be matched with their forever families. Please apply to adopt or foster these wonderful dogs to spare them from going to the boarding kennel. Please consider donating to help with their medical bills. Several tests were performed, but there were no conclusive results as to the origin of the puppies symptoms; however, the doctor said whatever they have is highly likely to be infectious. A test for parvo was negative but it is not 100% accurate depending on the stage of the infection. All of the doctor's findings regarding fecal analysis were suggestive of significant large intestinal inflammation (colitis). The doctor's approach for treatment in the hospital was for supportive care which included giving fluids, antibiotics, and deworming in an attempt to prevent secondary infections. The doctor said that if their symptoms are due to a viral infection, the infection would have to run it's course. The goal of the above mentioned therapies is to support the pup's bodies and prevent life-threatening to fatal complications from developing. The puppies were stabilized and sent home with a list of instructions and they are being watched closely for any deterioration in their condition. Each puppy will receive daily lactated ringer fluids injected under their skin. They are being fed a bland diet until their diarrhea resolves and will slowly be introduced to their regular food. They will continue to receive antibiotics for 14 days, and will be given another round of deworming medication. Their body temperatures will be monitored closely to detect if any of the puppies are getting sicker. The puppies have responded extremely well to treatment and we are hopeful that they will continue to improve. Please keep them in your thoughts and prayers and consider sending a donation to help us with their mounting medical bills. 03/31/13: URGENT, FINANCIAL SUPPORT AND YOUR PRAYERS NEEDED FOR THESE SWEET PUPPIES....
